Overview
Bookkeeping is the recording, on a day-to-day basis, of the financial transactions and information pertaining to a business. It ensures that records of the individual financial transactions are correct, up-to-date, and comprehensive. Accuracy is therefore vital to the process. While it may seem obvious, detailed, thorough bookkeeping is crucial for businesses of all sizes. Seemingly straightforward, bookkeeping quickly becomes more complex with the introduction of tax, assets, loans, and investments.

This bookkeeping certification provides you with all the necessary skills to either work as a bookkeeper or progress to a higher level of accountancy. This qualification will therefore ensure that you understand advanced bookkeeping principles and concepts.

Syllabus structure
The foundation-level bookkeeping certificate consists of three subjects:
Advanced Bookkeeping
This subject will allow you to apply the principles of advanced double-entry bookkeeping, implement procedures for the acquisition and disposal of non-current assets, prepare and record depreciation calculations, record period end adjustments, and produce and extend the trial balance. On the completion of this subject, you will learn how to:
1. Apply the principles of advanced double-entry bookkeeping
2. Implement procedures for the acquisition and disposal of non-current assets
3. Prepare and record depreciation calculations
4. Record period end adjustments
5. Produce and extend the trial balance

Final Accounts Preparation
This subject will allow you to distinguish between the financial recording and reporting requirements of different types of organizations, the need for final accounts, and the accounting and ethical principles underlying their preparation. On the completion of this subject, you will learn how to:
1. Distinguish between the financial recording and reporting requirements of different types of organizations
2. Prepare accounting records from incomplete information
3. Produce accounts for sole traders
4. Produce accounts for partnerships
5. Recognise the key differences between preparing accounts for a limited company and a sole trader

Indirect Tax
This subject will provide you with an understanding of applying VAT legislation requirements, accurately completing VAT returns and submitting them in a timely manner, and the implications for the business of errors, omissions, late filing and payment. On the completion of this subject, you will learn how to:
1. Understand and apply VAT legislation requirements
2. Accurately complete VAT returns and submit them in a timely manner
3. Understand the implications for the business of errors, omissions and late filing and payment
4. Report VAT-related information within the organisation in accordance with regulatory and organisational requirement

Assessment
Number of Assessments: 3
Format: Computer based
Availability: On demand at EIMF Examination Center
Pass: A score of 100 out of 150 will represent a Pass
Marking: Computer marked
Results: Provisional result available immediately followed by confirmation no more than 48 hours later
